What is Self-Adhesive Protective Film?
The self-adhesive film selection question for steel and glass is not whether to use film, but which adhesive tack level to configure for which substrate. Mirror stainless requires low tack (excessive adhesion leaves visible peel-mark lines). Brushed stainless requires medium tack (insufficient adhesion delaminate mid-handling). Color-coated steel requires adhesive formulation validation (peel-off force on coated surfaces varies by up to 3x depending on coating type). Float glass requires a different specification from Low-E coated glass. A single universal recommendation table cannot reliably cover all of these — which is why Plashield configures adhesive independently per substrate type.
The film is 100% virgin PE substrate with acrylic PSA, 30–100μm thick, covering six process stages: cutting, bending, forming, storage, transport, and on-site installation — with zero residue at removal within the recommended dwell period. Specific selection guidance (substrate type → tack level → thickness → roll specification) is expanded in the sections below. Alternatively, contact our technical sales team directly with a substrate sample and process description to receive samples and a selection recommendation within 3–5 business days.

Key Performance Features
PSA performance parameters matched to substrate surface energy and processing operation
100% virgin PE substrate, 30–100μm, coating uniformity ±0.5% (in-line inspection) — thickness consistency directly determines tension stability on continuous laminating lines; batch thickness deviation is the leading cause of automatic laminator jams
Acrylic PSA, three tack levels covering major industrial substrates: low-tack 80–150 g/25mm (mirror steel / float glass) / medium-tack 150–300 g/25mm (brushed steel / color-coated steel) / high-tack 300–600 g/25mm (galvanized steel / textured surfaces), tested by 180° ASTM D3330
Batch-to-batch peel force deviation ≤10% — stable tension on laminating lines; no tracking deviation or film break from batch adhesion variability; critical for high-volume galvanized and color-coated steel lines
Zero residue on mirror stainless and float glass after 30-day dwell, validated by 7-day accelerated aging (50°C); stable edge adhesion in low-temperature application environments (≥5°C)
Resistant to moisture, cutting oil, abrasive dust, and common industrial solvents (mineral spirits, thinner) — for metal fabrication shop and multi-trade construction site environments
Compatible with manual roller application and continuous automatic laminating lines; machine-grade long rolls (≥500m) with tapered tension winding for flat end faces and no-deviation reel changes
Transparent: visual surface inspection through film without removal — scratches and foreign particles detectable without peeling. Blue / black-white: immediate on-site identification of covered areas for coverage completeness verification
Why Choose Plashield
Plashield self-adhesive film has been validated on five major industrial substrate types: carbon steel, color-coated steel, mirror stainless steel, galvanized steel, and float glass. Low-tack formulation maintains peel force at 80–150 g/25mm on mirror stainless and float glass after 30-day dwell with zero residue (7-day accelerated aging validated). Medium-tack formulation delivers 150–300 g/25mm on brushed stainless with stable edge adhesion under heavy-load handling. Batch-to-batch peel force deviation ≤10% ensures consistent performance across different batches on the same laminating line.
Factory in Xinxiang, Henan Province, in continuous operation since 2004. 8+ high-speed coating and slitting lines, 200 million m² annual capacity. 100% virgin PE raw materials (no recycled content); coating thickness precision ±0.5% (in-line inspection); slitting width accuracy ±1mm (500–1600mm range). ISO 9001 certified across the full production process. Each batch ships with five-point QC records (peel force / coating uniformity / appearance / dimensions / elongation at break sampling). SGS third-party test reports available on request for export destination supplier qualification.
Customizable parameters: film width 500–1600mm, thickness 30–100μm, tack level (low / medium / high, confirmed by actual substrate sample testing), color (transparent / blue / black-white / brand-specified), OEM logo printing (registration accuracy ±0.1mm, ΔE ≤ 1.5), machine-grade roll lengths (500–3000m, core inner diameter per equipment mandrel specification). Samples dispatched within 3–5 business days with peel force and elongation at break data sheet. Standard mass production lead time 7–15 days. Multi-substrate SKUs (carbon steel / stainless / color-coated / glass film) can be consolidated into a single purchase order and shipped together.

Film Types & Options
Tailored configurations for different materials and processes.
Low-Tack Film
Low-tack formulation, peel force 80–150 g/25mm (180°, ASTM D3330), for mirror stainless steel (8K / BA), high-gloss color-coated steel, and float glass — the three substrate types most sensitive to adhesive residue where solvent cleaning risks damaging coating or plating layers. Zero residue after 30-day dwell on these surfaces, validated by 7-day accelerated aging at 50°C.
Medium-Tack Film
Medium-tack formulation, peel force 150–300 g/25mm, for brushed stainless steel, matte steel sheet, color-coated steel (polyester coating), and IGU aluminum spacer frames. These surfaces’ micro-roughness or lower surface energy provides insufficient anchor for low-tack, causing edge lifting from handling vibration and transit movement. The most widely used formulation by steel service centers, sheet distributors, and window profile suppliers — covering storage, transit, and standard fabrication (bending, punching, CNC cutting).
High-Tack Film
High-tack formulation, peel force 300–600 g/25mm, for galvanized steel sheet, electro-galvanized steel, and coarse-pattern decorative steel — galvanized surfaces’ zinc crystal micro-structure creates roughness that provides insufficient anchor for medium-tack, causing mid-transit delamination under container vibration and steel stacking pressure. High-tack maintains stable edge adhesion on galvanized substrates through 30+ day sea freight dwell with zero residue at removal. Note: not recommended for mirror or BA stainless steel — high-tack on these surfaces after dwell creates visible peel-mark lines.
Printed OEM Film
Client logo, contact details, product model, directional arrows, or removal instruction text printed on film surface; registration accuracy ±0.1mm, batch-to-batch color tolerance ΔE ≤ 1.5. Three practical applications in steel and glass industries: ① Brand-identified film on outbound steel/glass shipments enables distributors and job-site receivers to identify the supplier at first contact; ② Direction-arrow printed film on laser cutting lines assists alignment for patterned stainless steel; ③ Contractor-branded film on construction sites generates passive brand visibility to owners and inspectors throughout the build cycle
Wide-Width Film
Wide-width configurations up to 1600mm (steel products) and 2200mm (glass products — see window glass film page), for large-format steel sheets (extra-wide color-coated coil, curtain wall steel panels) and large glass panels (curtain wall glazing, oversized architectural windows). Extra-wide rolls are produced with tapered tension winding for flat end faces compatible with automatic laminator and large-format line reel changes — the failure point most commonly seen with general industrial film in wide-width configurations. Custom width confirmed against client equipment maximum web width; slitting accuracy ±1mm.
