What is Stainless Steel Protective Film?
Three most common stainless steel film failures on production floors:
- Using standard film for laser cutting — film shrinks at the cut path, bubbles, and carbonized adhesive contaminates the cut edge;
- Using low-tack film on brushed stainless steel — insufficient anchor on micro-rough surfaces causes mid-handling delamination;
- Using non-forming film for sink deep drawing — film ruptures at the draw radius, ending protection where it is most needed. The rework cost from using the wrong film grade is consistently higher than the price difference between grades.
Plashield separates stainless steel film into three working grades — not a single general formulation.
- Standard grade (30–70μm, low-to-medium tack 80–300 g/25mm) for coil slitting, sheet storage, bending, punching, and non-thermal cutting.
- Laser grade (50–90μm, medium tack 180–450 g/25mm, laser-compatible adhesive) for fiber and CO₂ laser cutting lines.
- Deep drawing grade (70–120μm, elongation ≥450%, medium-to-high tack 300–800 g/25mm) for sink, bowl, cookware, and sanitary ware deep forming operations.
All three grades can be independently configured per SKU within a single order, widths 500–1600mm, roll lengths 100–3000m, with OEM logo printing and black-white / blue / transparent color options. Exported to stainless steel fabricators, appliance panel suppliers, elevator door manufacturers, and architectural stainless curtain wall contractors in 60+ countries.

Purpose
Day-to-day surface protection for coil/sheet storage, handling, bending, punching, and non-thermal cutting operations
Description
The standard grade is the most frequently used formulation by stainless steel service centers, sheet distributors, appliance panel suppliers, and elevator door manufacturers. PE substrate, 30–70μm, acrylic PSA, peel force 80–300 g/25mm — low tack for mirror and BA surfaces, medium tack for brushed and matte. 100% virgin PE; batch-to-batch peel force deviation ≤10% for stable tension on laminating lines.
Key Features
PE substrate + acrylic PSA, 30–70μm, elongation at break ≥300% (ISO 527)
Low-to-medium tack (80–300 g/25mm, 180°, ASTM D3330), separately mapped to mirror and brushed stainless surfaces
Zero residue on mirror stainless after 30-day dwell, validated by 7-day accelerated aging at 50°C
Compatible with both manual application and continuous inline laminating lines (machine-grade rolls)
Resistant to moisture, oil, solvents, and mechanical abrasion
Typical Applications
Factory storage, coil slitting, and shearing of sheets and coils
Appliance panel (refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave housing) and elevator door processing and transit protection
Surface protection prior to bending, punching, and CNC non-thermal cutting
Laser Cutting Stainless Steel Protection Film
Purpose
Stainless steel surface protection during fiber and CO₂ laser cutting — preventing adhesive char contamination and film shrinkage at cut edges caused by thermal cutting
Description
The failure mechanism of standard PE film in laser cutting is: cutting heat causes film shrinkage and bubbling near the cut path, adhesive char falls into the kerf and panel surface, increasing post-cutting cleaning time and causing secondary scratch risk at cut edges. Laser-grade PE film uses a heat-stabilized PE formulation with a laser-compatible acrylic adhesive that maintains film stability in the heat-affected zone of high-power-density fiber laser (typical: 1–6 kW) and CO₂ laser (typical: 2–4 kW) operations, resulting in cleaner cut edges and significantly reduced post-processing cleaning time.
Key Features
Heat-stabilized PE formulation + laser-compatible acrylic adhesive, 50–90μm, common specification 70–80μm
No shrinkage or bubbling at cut paths; adhesive char at cut edges significantly lower than standard film
Compatible with fiber laser and CO₂ laser; nitrogen-assist cutting conditions should be validated with sample trials on actual equipment and parameters before bulk use
Directional arrows and alignment marks can be printed on film surface to assist laser cutting positioning on patterned or directional brushed stainless
Typical Applications
Fiber laser cutting lines (stainless structural components, precision panels, kitchen appliance parts)
CO₂ laser cutting machines (decorative stainless and signage)
Decorative stainless steel sheets
High-value decorative stainless steel (mirror 8K, BA, brushed hairline) laser precision processing.Laser cutting and forming of appliance housing panels and elevator cab decorative plates
Deep Drawing Protection Film for Stainless Steel
Purpose
Surface protection for stainless steel deep drawing and heavy forming operations — preventing film rupture at draw radii, adhesive transfer, and post-forming residue
Description
Standard 50μm PE film fails at draw ratios ≥2.0 in sink and sanitary ware forming at the draw radius zone — the film cannot follow the severe elongation of the stainless steel and tears or delaminate at the radius, losing protection exactly where it is most needed. Deep drawing grade PE film has elongation at break ≥450%, with a high-cohesion acrylic adhesive that does not migrate under severe shear deformation — post-forming peel force remains within hand-removable range, with zero residue on stainless steel surface after removal.
Key Features
80–100μm — High-elongation PE substrate, elongation at break ≥450% (ISO 527), 70–120μm, common heavy forming specification 80–100μm
High-cohesion adhesive formulation — adhesive does not migrate to stainless steel surface under severe shear during forming; zero residue after manual removal post-forming
High-transparency substrate; surface condition can be visually inspected through film during forming without removal — scratches or foreign particles detectable without peeling
Suitable for room-temperature forming; warm die or high-friction forming conditions require sample validation under actual process parameters before bulk use
Typical Applications
Stainless steel sink (single and double bowl), washbasin, and sanitary ware deep drawing forming
Cookware (pot bodies, steamers, pressure cookers) and kitchen appliance inner vessel forming
Heavy stamping of complex three-dimensional architectural stainless components and art installations
Key Performance Features
Engineered for stainless steel manufacturing environments.
100% virgin PE substrate; standard grade elongation ≥300%, deep drawing grade ≥450% (ISO 527) — addressing two primary processing failure modes: film rupture in general processing vs. tearing at draw radii
Acrylic PSA with three tack levels covering different process requirements: low-tack 80–150 g/25mm (mirror 8K / BA), medium-tack 150–300 g/25mm (brushed / matte), high-tack 300–800 g/25mm (deep drawing), all tested by 180° ASTM D3330
Batch-to-batch peel force deviation ≤10% — stable tension on continuous laminating lines; no tracking deviation or film break from batch-to-batch adhesion variability
Zero residue on mirror and BA stainless steel after 30-day dwell, validated by 7-day accelerated aging at 50°C
Laser-grade adhesive formulation tested in actual fiber and CO₂ laser cutting: adhesive char in kerf significantly reduced; film peels cleanly by hand after cutting without solvent assistance
Compatible with manual roller application and continuous automatic laminating lines; machine-grade long rolls (≥500m) with flat end faces for no-deviation reel changes
Why Choose Plashield
Plashield stainless steel film has been validated across five major stainless steel processing scenarios: coil slitting, fiber laser cutting, CO₂ laser cutting, bending/punching, and deep drawing forming. Standard low-tack formulation maintains peel force at 80–150 g/25mm on mirror 8K surfaces after 30-day dwell with zero residue at removal. Laser grade shows measurably reduced adhesive char in the kerf in fiber laser cutting trials, with clean hand removal after cutting. Deep drawing grade shows no film rupture or adhesive transfer in sink forming tests at draw ratio 2.2. Figures from production batch QC records and fabricator field tests — not sample-only testing.
Factory in Xinxiang, Henan Province, in continuous operation since 2004. 8+ coating and slitting lines with separate lines for each of the three film grades (standard / laser / deep drawing); 200 million m² total annual capacity.
